Is it a good app for a weekend city trip?
It was made for it. On a short city break there is no time to read up on every street. Open the app when you step outside and see which historical events, buildings, and people are right around you. Tip: save your destination as "planning to visit" before you leave, so its history is ready when you arrive.
Can I use it as a self-guided walking tour?
Yes. Instead of following a fixed route, you walk wherever you like and the app shows the historical places and stories around you. Many people use it as a self-guided history walk: no tour times, no group to keep up with, and you can stop for as long as you want.
I love reading history books. What does the app add?
Books tell you what happened. History Lives Here shows you where. Search for a historical figure, or filter by era or theme, and see the places connected to them on the map. The stories you have read become places you can visit.
Is the app easy to use for older travelers?
Yes. There is no account to create and no password to remember. Open the app, allow your location, and the history around you appears on the map. Tap a place to read its story in your own language. It is a relaxed way to explore a historic city at your own pace.
What do I need to use it?
An Android smartphone and a bit of curiosity. There is no account and no sign-up: install the app and start exploring. The app works worldwide, from Amsterdam and Paris to Chicago and Buenos Aires, and speaks your language automatically. The iPhone version is in development and coming soon to the App Store.
What does it cost?
The app is free to download and explore. An optional Pro membership unlocks the full experience and is purchased and managed entirely through your Google Play account, including any free trials or offers. You can cancel at any time through Google Play.
How is my data handled?
There is no account, so we hold no sign-up data about you. Your location is used only to show historical content around you and is not stored on our servers. Camera imagery in AR is processed only to position content and never stored. Full details in our privacy policy.
Is my city covered?
Coverage grows city by city, across Europe and beyond. Major cities already hold rich layers of history, and new places are added continuously. Planning a trip? Save a place as "planning to visit" in the app and the history for that area is prepared in advance.
